Seven directions for Notey’s visual and UI identity: four new, three kept from round 1. The words stay as they are; every sample uses Notey’s current copy. Only the look changes.
Ellise, Nordic Foundry and Economio: distinct, modern, beautiful, simple, up to date. Not unique, but distinct. Notey has to sit in that company without looking like any of them.
Filed is out: fun, but blocky and short-lived. Margin and Shapes are the strongest. Corner stays, but its full colour belongs on the website, not across the whole app, so its app is reworked below. Funnel is a favourite typeface.
Economio’s ink-only monochrome, dark pages, amber photography and Google Sans. Ellise’s Brockmann and Nordic Foundry’s Rawest. Notey’s old brush script, doodles and mint.
In the samples, “notey” is typed in each direction’s font so the pages aren’t anonymous. It isn’t a logo proposal; the mark stays yours. Typefaces can also move between directions: Funnel would suit Full stop or Layers just as well.
Big ideas. Little reminders. All welcome here.
The idea. Notey’s voice is short sentences that end with a full stop. Here that full stop becomes the only colour in the brand. Everything else is white, soft grey and very precise type.
Why it fits. It’s the simplest possible system: one orange dot means “this one”: the active page, the workspace you’re in, the thing you just added. Nothing else competes, so your notes do the talking.

One family, three weights, small sizes. The precision is the personality.
The orange full stop: at the end of headlines, beside the active page, on the workspace you’re in. When something is added, the rest moves aside to make space for it.
So little colour can feel cold if the type and spacing aren’t exact. And the orange only works while it stays rare: one dot per view.

“Start small. Leave a little room to grow.”
The idea. In Notey, pages live inside pages. Here every page is a sheet. Open one and it slides over the page it lives in, which stays visible as an edge at the top. A card with pages inside shows a small stack.
Why it fits. Nested pages are one of Notey’s core ideas, but today they only show up as an indented list. Layers makes the structure something you can see, and gives the brand depth instead of decoration.

Depth has three steps: resting, lifted, stacked
Stacked sheets. A page shows the edge of the page it lives in; a card with pages inside shows a small stack; the Mini view floats as its own sheet.
Shadows date quickly once they get heavy. Keep depth to three steps, and design dark mode early, because shadows work differently there.

“A focused view when you want to get lost in a page.”
The idea. Notey is a place where you write and read back. This direction treats every document like a well-set book page: a serif drawn for screens, a comfortable reading width, generous margins, and a ribbon to mark the pages you’ll come back to.
Why it fits. “A place to catch the thoughts I don’t want to lose.” The writing is what people keep, so the brand is built around reading it. One weight only: hierarchy comes from size, colour and space.

A matched serif and sans from Sweden, both with a single weight. No bold anywhere.
The bookmark ribbon: on pages you mark to come back to, and beside the page you’re on. Documents set like a book: serif, reading width, margins.
Serif headlines on a beige page are a look many AI products use right now. This only stays clear of it with white paper, no italics and one weight. The single weight also means the interface can never lean on bold.

“Make yourself at home.”Hemma is Swedish for “at home”.
The idea. Notey as a Nordic home: light, warm, uncluttered, a few soft colours that sit well together. Shapes use squircles, the continuous corners from iOS that the web can draw now, so everything feels soft but exact.
Why it fits. The copy already invites people in: “Make yourself at home”, “Create your space”, “My little corner”. Hemma is the warmest of the directions, and the one that would feel most at home on a phone.

Made by Familjen, a Stockholm agency. A grotesk with a bit of warmth in its curves.
Squircles everywhere, and a small set of muted Nordic colours (fjord, ochre, lingon, heather) used as soft rooms on the website and as labels in the app.
Closest to Ellise in mood: warm light ground, soft shapes. The colours and Familjen’s character have to keep it apart. The least surprising of the seven.

“Less friction. More room.”
The idea. Room to think, taken literally. A white page, very big type, very little else. The only colour is a highlighter, the way people mark what matters in their own notes.
Why it fits. The copy is the strongest part of Notey’s brand, so this direction lets it lead. “Less friction. More room.” becomes the layout rule: no boxes, no shadows unless something floats, and space does the separating.

One family for everything. Drawn for the Nordic news publisher Schibsted: firm at large sizes, clear at small ones.
The highlighter. It marks key words on the website, the active page in the app, and tags. A blinking caret wherever something can be written.
Minimal turns generic quickly. It depends on exact type sizes and spacing, and on the copy staying this good.

“Choose the shape that fits the thought.”
The idea. In Notey the same thought can be a document, a board or a list. This direction turns that into the brand: a small set of solid blocks that rearrange into each shape.
Why it fits. “Write it out. Move it along a board. Tick it off a list.” One database with five views is Notey’s real advantage. Here it’s shown, not described.

Workspace
Blocks that rearrange into a document, a board or a list. Square corners, perfect circles, nothing in between. Hard offset shadows for things you can move.
One strong blue is a big commitment in an app that’s open all day. Keep it to the frame and active states, never behind writing.

“My little corner.”
The idea. Every space in Notey belongs to someone. Each workspace picks its own colour, and one big rounded corner runs through every shape.
Changed in round 2. The full colour stays on the website, where it makes Notey easy to recognise. In the app the colour now marks only your workspace, the active page, what’s done and what’s moving. Everything you work on sits on warm white.

The corner scales with size: 44 · 26 · 14 · 8 px
One big rounded corner on otherwise square shapes, scaled to their size. On the website, a whole room in your colour; in the app, the same colour as a small mark.
The website needs one default colour that people remember as Notey’s. Six colours also need care in dark mode and for contrast.

Pick two or three to take further. Parts travel well: Full stop’s dot works in any of them, Layers’ sheets would suit Margin or Shapes, and Funnel could replace any typeface here.
Look in Framer for templates with the same feeling. Each direction lists search words. A reference helps with layout and motion, the way Clearpath did for Economio.
Then the chosen direction gets done properly: the full website, the real app screens, light and dark, and the brand book built from it.
